Google Introducing Virtual Visiting Cards On Google Search

Google Announces "People Card" In India

We all are searching for famous people on Google, it is easy to find information about well known personalities. While searching their names you often find knowledge panels that organize information about them from trusted sources.

But what happens when you search for people who are not famous or even search for your own name? Yes, it is not always easy to find the person you are looking for on Google as there are many people who share the same name on the internet.

Google announces a new feature called "People Cards" that lets you turn yourself into a Google Search result. It is like a virtual card, where you can highlight your existing website or social profiles you want people to visit and other information abour yourself that you want others to know.

How To Create "People Card"

  • First sign into your Google Account
  • Search for your name or "add me to Search" and tap the prompt that appears.
  • Add the description of yourself, your website or social profiles, phone number or email address.
  • The more information you provide, the easier it is for people to find you.

As per Google's blog post, only one people card is allowed per Google Account, and a phone number is required to authenticate the account. There are number of mechanisms to protect against abusive or spammy content.

If you find low quality information or come across any card that was created by an impersonator, then you can easily send the feedback link to Google. You can easily delete your visiting card at any time, if you want it no longer appear in Search.

If you’re trying to find someone on Search, these new cards make it quick and easy to find the right person. When you search for someone’s name and there’s a card available, you’ll see a module with the name, profession and location, which you can tap to see their card.

For people who share the same name, you’ll see multiple modules, and the information can help you distinguish between the different individuals to find who you’re looking for.

Lauren Clark, product manager writes, The People Card feature, for the people in India searching on mobile phones is rolling out in English only, starting today. However, no words on when Google will roll out the feature to other parts of the world.
