LG Launching First Ever 98-inch 8K SUPER UHD TV In CES 2016

Forget 4K Now Comes 8K Super UHDTV by LG

IPS TV offerings will be the 65-inch UH9500 and 86-inch UH9550 and SUPER UHD TV 65-inch UH8500 and 75-inch UH8550.  The new version of LG will run on latest WebOS 3.0 software.  LG is also going to show its first production-ready 98-inch 8K SUPER UHD TV with plans to begin shipping in the second half of 2016, which is 16 times full HD resolutions.

What is 8K Resolution?
8K resolution or 8K UHD is the highest ultra high definition television (UHDTV) resolution to exist in digital television and digital cinematography. 8K refers to the horizontal resolution of these formats, which all are on the order of 8,000 pixels, forming the total image dimensions (7680×4320).

8K UHD has four times the horizontal and vertical resolution of the 1080p HDTV format, with sixteen times as many pixels overall.

  • LG’s ULTRA Luminance technology
  • Another innovation, Billion Rich Colors, uses the 10-bit panel and 10-bit processing power to give the UH9500 and UH9550 the ability to render over one billion possible colors.
  • support for BT.2020, the next-generation standard for broadcast and distribution.
  • Ultra-thin 6.6mm screen depth.

“We’re confident our newest HDR-enabled SUPER UHD TVs in 2016 will generate much excitement not in the industry, but also with consumers in general,” said Brian Kwon, President and CEO at LG’s Home Entertainment Company. “We are the only company with a dual strategy focused on both OLED and IPS TV technologies and this is proof that we are not prioritizing one display over the other.”
