WhatsApp Finally Gets Mentions Feature for Group Chats

Finally, WhatsApp has allowed the mention feature on its Android as well as iPhone app. The mention feature works same as it does on Twitter and Facebook. Users will have to use "@" sign in a group chat and automatically the app will advise names of the group members. Once you picked the member and hit send, a name of that member will appear in blue text. We can mention multiple people in a single chat. The mention feature was first rumored back in June.

The feature only works in a group chat and is not applicable for individual chats.

Many people stated their discomfort on social media when it came to group chat conversations, particularly when using WhatsApp. The users were very keen in asking for a feature which permits users to scroll openly to the related part with their name being tagged then having to go through the entire conversation to do so.

The new feature of the popular instant messaging app will make it easier to get the consideration of someone in the group by mentioning them. Particularly, the new feature is observable to android users who are running version 2.16.259 and above.

If the user is getting irritated by increasing number of messages in the group chat but the user cannot mute the chat either, well, now user can! The new Whatsapp chat lets users to still get the notification in muted chats if a member has mentioned him/her using “@”.

Previously Whatsapp added the option to quote messages, a welcome change by the messaging giant. By announcing this feature, people might not feel that irritated with a thousand messages waiting for them in group chats.

WhatsApp has recently been adding plenty of features to its messaging service, with the newest being message quotes and replies. The feature permitted users to quote messages when replying. The message quotes and replies feature is self-explanatory and the user needs to long press a message in any conversation to see a reply option pop up alongside delete, star, forward, and copy.

Furthermore, WhatsApp's Legal Info page has some new details how the company is looking businesses to communicate with each other using the WhatsApp app. The company is rumoured to add bots to its messaging app. WABetaInfo on Twitter pointed to WhatsApp's new legal info that notes, "We will explore ways for you and businesses to communicate with each other using WhatsApp, such as through order, transaction, and appointment information, delivery and shipping notifications, product and service updates, and marketing."

The page further clarifies, "you may receive flight status information for upcoming travel, a receipt for something you purchased, or a notification when a delivery will be made. Messages you may receive containing marketing could include an offer for something that might interest you. We do not want you to have a spammy experience; as with all of your messages, you can manage these communications, and we will honour the choices you make."
