Yahoo! Has Agreed To Pay $1.1B For Tumblr

Yahoo! Has Agreed To Pay $1.1B For Tumblr. Its founded by David Karp in Febuary 2007 and its headquartered in New York, As of May 19, 2013, Tumblr hosts over 108 million blogs,  50 billion postings in 12 languages and 175 employees. The website ranking site Alexa lists Tumblr as number 32 in terms of global popularity. Tumblr is microblogging, social networking service website.

According to WSJ,  Yahoo Chief Executive Marissa Mayer's deal for Tumblr would give Yahoo, one of the original big Internet companies, a fast-growing Web service that could fill one of its many holes—namely, the lack of a thriving social-networking and communications hub. Tumblr is popular with many younger adults, in contrast with Yahoo's older customer base. Tumblr is also growing more quickly on smartphones than Yahoo.

According to the technology website AllThingsD, "which is part of the Journal's parent company, Tumblr founder and chief executive David Karp will get a large cash windfall and also stay at Yahoo for four years, retaining control over the service.
Tumblr has started selling modestly sized “native ads” promoting brands’ Tumblr pages, on users’ “dashboards,” which has shown promise. Tumblr has said it had $13 million in revenue last year and sources said it could get up to $100 million this year."

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer strategy want their products offers to gain new users and advertisers for business to Yahoo as according to Report.

She wrote on their Tumblr Account "I’m delighted to announce that we’ve reached an agreement to acquire Tumblr! We promise not to screw it up.  Tumblr is incredibly special and has a great thing going.  We will operate Tumblr independently.
David Karp will remain CEO.  The product roadmap, their team, their wit and irreverence will all remain the same as will their mission to empower creators to make their best work and get it in front of the audience they deserve.  Yahoo! will help Tumblr get even better, faster.
