Instapaper Premium Features Now Available for Free to All Users

Today Instapaper has declared that the company will be offering its premium features for free to all of its users.

While Instapaper’s always been free, its Premium subscription put a few of its best features behind a paywall. This involved:

An ad-free Instapaper website
Unlimited Notes
Full-text search for all articles
Unlimited speed reading
Text-to-speech playlists
Kindle Digests of up to 50 articles
“Send to Kindle” via bookmarklet and mobile apps

For existing Instapaper Premium users, we’ll offer prorated refunds for your current subscription, and you’ll no longer be billed for Instapaper Premium,” said Instapaper Team in a blog post.

“Now that we’re better resourced, we’re able to offer everyone the best version of Instapaper,” it added. Instapaper initially charged $2.99 per month and $29.99 per year for Premium subscription. Pinterest acquired Instapaper in August but the amount wasn’t disclosed. ” Joining Pinterest provides us with the additional resources and experience necessary to achieve that shared mission on a much larger scale,” the Instapaper team had said in a blog post.

Those users, who were already subscribed will get a prorated refund in the coming weeks, so be sure to check our emails for that. Pinterest has planned the plan to be more than just a place to collect articles with visual content. The move also recommends that Pinterest has a lot more to offer in the future.

The app was newly attained by the social network Pinterest, and since then has gradually dropped the paid-for functionality in favor of free. It's still one of the best apps for saving online articles for later offline reading, and with the full functionality now unlocked for regular users, it basically blows the competition away.

It will be exciting to see how Instapaper now fares against its rival app Pocket as they both offer similar services. Given the better resources available now to Instapaper, it has more than a fighting chance against its counterpart.
